Pentax Unveils New Rugged Digital Cameras w/ Crush-Proofing and More

Pentax Imaging has just announced a new addition to their Optio range of digital cameras, two rugged digital point-and-shoots. The Pentax Optio WG-1 and Pentax Optio WG-1 GPS. Each of those two cameras will feature very rugged builds and are according to Pentax coldproof, crushproof, dustproof, shockproof and waterproof.
The durability isn’t the only thing the Optio WG-1 and Optio WG-1 GPS both share but the cameras aren’t all the same, Pentax offers the Optio WG-1 GPS with built-in GPS for Geo-tagging. Here are the main features the cameras share in common:
- 14 megapixel CCD sensor; type: 1/2.3” interline transfer CCD w primary color filter
- Wide angle 5X internal optical zoom lens (28-140mm equivalent)
- 92MB of built-in flash storage
- 720p HD (1280 x 720) video capture at 30 frames per second
- Face Detection technology including a new Self-Portrait Assist mode
- New Digital Microscope mode with five macro LEDs for improved macro lighting
- Detachable macro stand for a tri-pod similar shooting experience
- A woven web fabric strap with a carabiner for attaching the camera to backpacks etc.
- Eye-Fi wireless SD memory card connectivity and SD, SDHC, SDXC support
- Coldproof to sub-freezing temps of minus 10 degrees C (14 degrees F)
- Crushproof up to 220 pounds (100kgf kilogram-force)
- Dustproof protection
- Shockproof to 5 feet drops
- Waterproof to 33 feet
The Pentax Optio WG-1 will be offered in Black or Purple color choices for $349.95 in April of this year. The Pentax Optio WG-1 GPS will offered in April too but in Black or Yellow Green color choices for $399.95.
