When saying that Leica hasn't made any changes to a re-badged Panasonic product, are you saying that the image-processing algorithms and optics are identical? I have had great results with a Digilux 2 and V-Lux, both of which are Panny's. I haven't done any comparisons to the Panasonic model, but can confirm that the color balance, depth of field, bokeh and many other measures of picture quality from these Leicas are superior to what I have seen from other digitals from Nikon and Canon. I don't think I'm biased by the red dot. The image quality is head and shoulders above the competition.

I will also add that the warranty service is better than any I have seen from another manufacturer. Leica replaced the sensor in my Digilux 2--for free-- long after the warranty expired because of a manufacturing defect in the original. It had to be costly for the company to disassemble and re-build a camera that wasn't built to be serviced like this. That alone justifies a price premium over Panasonic. I don't recall seeing any mention of Panasonic doing the same for its version of this camera.
